This was the moment. She had to confess before it was too late. The young girl with long braided black hair stood there blushing as she tried to spit out the words she had been dyng to tell him, her crush, for a long time. She had to tell him. She just had to.
Just the other day she overheard him talking to his friends about a different girl who he might ask out. She knew it was now or never. He had not asked the other girl out yet, but if she didn't tell him her feelings, she probably would lose him to the other girl.
There was a small smile on his face as he waited for her to tell him whatever it was that she wanted to tell him. She kept fidgeting with her skirt and repeatedly looking at him and then at the ground.
"I... I..." The words were on the tip of her tongue. They were three little words. Why was it so hard to just spit them out? Why did her heart pound so loudly in her ears? She hoped that her crush couldn't hear it pounding at such a rapid pace. Never before had she ever felt like this - so nervous, so afraid. She had never experienced the overwhelming heart pounding she had read in so many manga and books.
"Are you okay?" he asked with a worried expression on his face. Oh, he was so cute! One more reason she was having a hard time telling him how she felt.
She nodded her head quickly. Why? WHY was this so hard to do. Tears were forming in her eyes now. This was so frustrating. She had called him over to tell him, but now her courage had left her.
"Are you crying?"
She looked up into his face as the tears began to spill out of her eyes. He had a look of shock on his face for a few seconds before reaching in his pocket and pulling out a wrinkled white handkerchief.
"It's not much, but it'll do." He held out the handkerchief to her. She looked up into his eyes for a moment before taking the handkerchief. She did not use it, not yet at least. A puzzled expression formed on his face. "You sure you're okay?"
The girl nodded slightly. Then she took a deep breath.
"I've wanted to tell you something for a while now, but I never had the courage to tell you."
He raised one eyebrow slightly.
"I..." Come on. Just tell him. It's now or never. "I..."
The eyebrow raised a little more.
"I LIKE YOU!" There. You finally said it. The three little words you've wanted to tell him.
His expression was one of surprise. Slowly, a weak smile formed on his lips. He scratched his head and fidgeted a bit. His cheeks were definitely a few shades pinker than usual.
"Uh, wow. Wasn't expecting that. Um..." He stole a glance at the girl before shifting his gaze to the ground.
Oh, no. This was rejection time. Brace yourself. She shut her eyes. There were still tears hanging on her chin as new ones formed from her eyes.
"I, uh - don't cry." She could feel his hand gently brushing against her cheek to wipe away her tears. She opened her eyes. They were still glassy with tears.
His face was smiling embarrassedly. He didn't take away his hand from her cheek. His hand was so warm.
"I was going to ask someone else out..." More tears formed in her eyes. She tried - she really did - to hold them back, but they just spilled over anyway. A pained expression crossed his face as he saw more tears fall. "Don't cry. Please. It's not like that."
"B-B-But you like someone else, right?" She began to wipe away the tears with his handkerchief. His hands found hers and pulled away the handkerchief from her face. She gasped as her tear-stained face stared up into his unreadable eyes. His face was only a few inches away from hers now.
"It's not like that," He whispered to her.
"But-!" He cut her off by planting his lips on hers.
Wha? Why is he kissing me?
He pulled away but didn't let go of her hands. The girl stared into his eyes confused.
"I thought you didn't like me. I was going to ask someone else out to see if I could stop the pain in my chest., but things have changed."
"You thought I didnt like you?" Her crush sheepishly smiled and nodded. She smiled a little as she wiped away the tears still clinging to her face.
"I heard you liked someone else." The girl shook her head.
"There's only you."
